"PLUSH!"

Dear readers,

Recently someone sent one of the companies who share my blog post a nasty message. It stated that calling me "The Plush Pin-up" is derogatory. I decided to clarify, they were not calling me the plush pin-up, that is the name of my blog.

The term "plush" comes from plush fabric that is softer than velvet and used on many stuffed animals. When used as an adjective, it means soft and luxurious. The reason I call myself the "plush" pin-up is because I am larger than the average fashion blogger. I am a "plus-sized" woman. The term was directed towards myself. I had no intention of insulting anyone. I believe that a woman should love herself at any size. However, I didn't always believe this.

This is me a few years ago at my heaviest weight. I had no self-esteem and was 38lbs. heavier than I am now. I had tried hundreds of different diets in my life and due to my yo-yo dieting continuously binged after each failure. I hated myself.

I drank only protein shakes 2 days before this photo and actually gained weight.

Finally, I got sick of dieting, sick of going to the gym for 4 hours, 3 days a week. I basically said "F*** it."
Oddly enough, that is when the pounds started to fall off. I ate what I wanted and felt no shame when I ate some thing that wasn't "diet food." Because I never felt deprived I didn't binge. I then discovered a pill called alli (also known as orlistat) that helped me even further because it blocks 25% of the fat you eat. (Don't take any medication with out the approval of your doctor.)

This was when the realization hit me, "Life is about enjoyment not your dress size."

This is why I have a plus size blog. I know how hard it is to be larger than most and how it feels to be overlooked. I know what it feels like to have to shop in special stores because the majority of stores don't carry your size. Being plus sized isn't easy, but it is not something you should be ashamed of.

When I realized this, I gained confidence and no longer felt overlooked. I made more friends in school and became a happier individual.

Learn to love yourself at any size.

Sincerely,

Mock Press Conference

Hey Yall,
Yesterday was a particularly fun day at school. We had a mock press conference for a kidnapping case. We were able to speak to a real police homicide investigator about the case. Part of me was baffled at what to do but at the same time I just wanted to jump into the action. It was a great experience.

More people asked today about my retro style and I referred them to my blog. The blog has had almost 1000 page views since it first started. I am excited to see new people are following it. Once things get a little less financially rocky, I am hoping to try some new styles like a peter pan  collar dress or a patterned sweater. My mother is suggesting that I purchase a London fog coat, which would be nice for covering stories like Hurricane Katrina, once I have my degree in journalism. But, they are incredibly expensive! One coat, and I will be waving goodbye to an entire pay check. I think the coat can wait for a while.

Have you seen the latest Meghan Trainor video yet? The costumes are an adorable cross between rockability and modern styles.

This dress can be purchased in many other colors from le bomb shop. They are an awesome company and their clothing will flatter most figures.
The jacket was purchased from one stop plus.

What's News Pussy Cat!

Hey yall, I have another dress review for today. I recently received this Kitty Chronicle newsprint dress in the mail and I have to tell you, it is just peachy! It is from modcloth.com and it is insanely adorable! The fabric actually has little articles you can read and some of the articles send you into fits of giggles.

The chest was a bit large on me so I had to take in the upper part of the dress. When it arrived, it was wrinkled so I had to iron it, which isn't surprising since it is 100% cotton. If you are a dog lover, don't despair. There is also a dog version of the dress you can see HERE.

Since I am cheap, I used my 10% student discount from Unidays. If you are currently enrolled in college and have an email address that ends in (.edu) you can get student discounts from several different stores. Some of the stores involved with the free program are Modcloth, the Apple store, Ann Taylor, Levi's, Asos, Toms, and many more. I highly recommend you sign up for Unidays if you can. It's Cat-tastic!

There are some close ups of a few of the articles on the dress. You can click on the photo to make it bigger.

In other news, Oreo decided he likes the dress because it provides purrrrfect camouflage.

I Couldn't Resist

Hey yall,
I am sorry I haven't put up a new blog post lately. It has been so rainy and nasty outside, I haven't had a chance to. However, I did come across a dress that I have fallen in love with. Now when I bought it Ebay claimed it was vintage, but I think it is simply handmade because there was another one she was selling. It is too small for me now, but I am going to use it as a goal for my weight loss.

Speaking of weight loss, my diet pills Alli is back on the market and I am thrilled! It is the only way in the past I have really been able to lose weight. Mainly due to the fact I am terrified of the side-effects if I don't follow the diet strictly, but I digress.

In other news, a while back my mom came across some of my grandpa's wedding pictures. I had only seen one photo of my grandmother before this and I never really knew how much I resemble her. The resemblance is uncanny. I looked at my mother and asked, "Are you sure I am not her reincarnated. She answered, "Well you were born a month and a half after she died."

  0_o   Weird!

But, at least I didn't come back as a cow.  LOL!

What do you think about the photo?

Midterms :(

Hey Yall,

To catch you up on some of the things going on in my life, my page has hit 800 views and is probably going to exceed 900 today (Yay!), midterms are coming up so my couch is littered with papers, and the strawberry festival is coming up in early April.

I am hoping on doing a blog post the week of the strawberry festival, depending on how busy I am. I am also hoping to have all my midterm exams finished at that time. School has been rough lately. I have been working on a lot of projects. But, I am fighting through it.

I finally did get my fudge this week. My mother and I split two flavors, wedding cake and strawberry.

In other news, for my lebombshop followers, I have 4 more dresses that will soon be coming to this blog. The latest florals they put out, are even more stunning than their predecessors. I haven't had much time to work with my skirts, but I do have a very special one made for Easter that I can't wait to show you!

That's all for now.

Sincerely,

The plush pin-up

The Body!!!

Hey Lovelies,

I generally don't tell any stories about things that happen at work, but this one is too funny not to. This is nothing bad, but I will not be mentioning names to respect their privacy.

At the grocery store I work at,I was standing at my register, when my manager walks past me and asks, "Who is that laying on the floor?" I turn around and see two feet sticking from behind the Drink Machine. It looked very similar to when the house falls on the wicked witch in the "Wizard of Oz."

I have a bad habit of thinking the worst when something happens. So, I was standing there thinking, 'Oh my God some one fainted...or died. Oh god what if I am 5 feet away from a dead guy!'

I sucked in a breath and was frozen in fear. I couldn't move an inch. The cashier next to me also looked petrified.

My manager seeing I was incapacitated slowly walked towards the legs. I am not positive but I think she was nervous too. She peaked around the corner of the machine and saw....

a stock clerk. He was sitting on the ground, putting more drinks into the machine. When she said who was there we let out a sigh of relief. He almost gave me a heart attack!!!

This dress was purchased from modcloth.
Although the feline one is no longer
available, there is one with dogs on it

Pin-up Girl History

Today was a long, wet, and dreary day in Louisiana but I did manage to find out a few interesting facts about pin-up girls. In one of my communications courses today, we were talking about photos and how they make an impact in magazines. While we were flipping through some famous photos on the overhead projector, he showed us a picture of a pin-up girl. When he showed us this photograph, he asked the class, "Do you know the difference between a pin-up girl and a victory girl?" I had no idea.

Apparently, a pin-up girl would pose for a photo which was mass produced and sent overseas to the soldiers fighting in WWII. It was used to raise the morale of the soldiers and show them what they have waiting for them back at home. A victory girl, was a young woman who supported the soldiers by offering their company and/or sex to the men stationed at military bases.

I am particularly interested in retro fashion and found this lecture fascinating. I thought it would be a good idea to pass on the history to you. You're Welcome!
